Getting Started with Therapy
What types of therapy services do you offer?
We provide a wide range of therapy services, including individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. We cater to the unique needs of adults, seniors, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Do I need a referral to start therapy?
No, you do not need a referral to see a psychotherapist. We welcome individuals to reach out to us directly.
Are your services available in person?
Our services are exclusively provided online or over the phone.
Who are the therapists at your clinic?
Our team comprises experienced and compassionate therapists who are passionate and dedicated to helping you. We pride ourselves on being professional, down-to-earth, and friendly, making your therapy experience comfortable and effective.
How do I find the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapist is crucial. We offer free 15-minute consultations (20 minutes for couples) with our therapists to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your choice.
What is psychotherapy?
As defined by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy aimed at improving and maintaining mental health and well-being. It involves a collaborative effort between the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and the client to bring about positive changes in thinking, feeling, behavior, and social functioning.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
Yes. Your information is kept secure and confidential. We strictly adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (2004), ensuring that all personal health information is confidential.
What will we discuss in the 15-minute consultation?
The consultation is an opportunity for you and your therapist to see if you are a good fit. You may discuss what you are seeking help with, your past therapy experiences, and ask questions about their training, experience, way of working and the therapy process. The therapist will address any questions you may have.
How long is a therapy session?
Regular Sessions last 50 minutes. We also offer 75 and 100-minute sessions. Please ask your therapists if you require an extended session.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required can vary greatly depending on your specific needs, the issues you're facing, and other factors. Your therapist will discuss and work with you to determine the most appropriate approach for your needs.
What happens in the first session of therapy?
Your first session is an opportunity to build a therapeutic relationship. It's all about understanding your experiences, what brought you to therapy, and what you'd like to change in your life.
What are the benefits of psychotherapy and who can benefit from it?
Psychotherapy offers the benefits of improved mental health, enhanced coping skills, better relationships, increased self-awareness, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, stress reduction, empowerment, an enhanced quality of life, and lasting well-being.
Psychotherapy is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or cultural background. It's a tool for gaining insight into behaviours, thoughts, and feelings.
What is the difference between a psychotherapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?
Psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists have distinct roles and qualifications. We recommend considering the specific services they offer based on your needs.
Payments and Insurance
Can you direct bill to insurance providers?
While most insurance providers offer coverage for Registered Psychotherapists and or RP(q) we recommend reaching out to your provider to verify your coverage.
How do I pay for my therapy sessions?
We accept e-transfers and checks. Please find the details at the bottom of the invoice.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes, we do offer sliding scale rates for people in special circumstances. Please feel free to contact us if you require a sliding scale fee.
What are the current rates for psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy and psychological services are not covered by OHIP. Pricing may vary based on therapists' specialization, experience, and demand for services. Please refer above.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
While therapy is not covered under OHIP, many extended health benefits do cover psychotherapy services from a Registered Psychotherapist. We do not direct bill, so payment is required at the time of service.
What if I have to cancel or reschedule a session?
We kindly ask for a 48-hour notice for cancellations or rescheduling, as this directly affects our therapists' schedules and their income generation. Sessions cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment will incur a 50% charge, while cancellations made within 24 hours will be billed at the full session rate. In unforeseen circumstances, please reach out to us to discuss, as we may consider compassionate exceptions.
Counselling and psychotherapy are professional services.
Some extended Health Care Plans will provide reimbursement for counseling and psychotherapy services or it could be part of the health spending account.
*Please verify with your insurance plan in advance of starting therapy to determine your coverage.
* Sliding scale rates are available depending on financial circumstances.
